Blink-182 is an American rock band that emerged in the 1990s and gained significant popularity in the punk rock and pop punk genres. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge, bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott Raynor. Over the years, Blink-182 went through several lineup changes, with Travis Barker replacing Scott Raynor as the drummer in 1998.
Formed in Poway, California, in 1992, Blink-182 initially gained attention with its energetic and irreverent style, characterized by catchy melodies, fast-paced songs, and humorous lyrics. They released their debut album, “Cheshire Cat,” in 1994, which showcased their punk sound. However, it was their breakthrough album, “Enema of the State” (1999), that propelled them to mainstream success. The album featured hit singles like “All the Small Things,” “Adam’s Song,” and “What’s My Age Again?” and sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
Following the success of “Enema of the State,” Blink-182 released several more albums, including “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” (2001), “Blink-182” (2003), and “Neighborhoods” (2011). These albums produced popular songs such as “The Rock Show,” “First Date,” “Feeling This,” and “Up All Night.” The band’s music often explored themes of teenage angst, relationships, growing up, and humor, resonating with a wide fan base.
In 2005, Blink-182 announced an indefinite break, during which members pursued other musical projects. Tom DeLonge focused on his band Angels & Airwaves, while Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker formed +44. However, in 2009, the band announced their reunion and released the album “Neighborhoods” in 2011. They followed it with the EP “Dogs Eating Dogs” in 2012.
In 2015, Blink-182 experienced another lineup change when Tom DeLonge departed the band and was replaced by Matt Skiba from the band Alkaline Trio. The newly reformed trio released the album “California” in 2016, which marked a return to their pop-punk roots. The album was a commercial success and included hits such as “Bored to Death” and “She’s Out of Her Mind.”
Blink-182 continued their musical journey, releasing the album “Nine” in 2019, which showcased a blend of their classic pop-punk sound with more mature and introspective lyrics.

Tom DeLonge

Matt Skiba was raised in McHenry, Illinois, after moving there as a child. Early on, he picked up the drums and the keyboard.
His debut performance was with Public Image Ltd. In 1996, he made the decision to convert from the drums to the guitar while working as a bike messenger. He had previously performed with bands like Blunt, Jerkwater, and the Traitors.
His mother, Joan Skiba, teaches fourth and fifth graders at Crystal Lake, Illinois’ Woods Creek Elementary School. Matt father, Crystal Lake oral surgeon Thomas Skiba (1942–2022), saw action in the Vietnam War. His younger sisters are also twins.
