Ovilee May is a well-known American journalist who is best known for her work as a television host, although she may also be called a TV personality. She also works for Riot Games as an interviewer and anchor. She began her work as a social media manager before becoming a video game streamer.

Ovilee May’s Early Life

Ovilee May was born in California on June 4, 1996, to an American father and Asian mother. She was raised Christian in a home that nurtured her early love of gaming.

According to an Instagram post, May’s grandfather taught her how to do fishing when she was very young.

May attended Saint Francis High School in California. She went on to study Arts, Journalism, and Communication at Chapman University, earning a bachelor’s degree. While still in high school, May began streaming gameplay and hosting small gaming events.

Ovilee May Esports and Gaming Career

According to an Instagram post, Ovilee May began playing video games at just 18 months old. An early photo shows a May enthralled by a game controller.

While studying journalism and communication at Chapman University, May began working in gaming event production and social media management. From 2012-2014, she worked at Hardwired Gaming Agency as an event coordinator and spokesperson, planning and hosting gaming events.

In 2015, May took on a director role with esports organization Team Dragon Knights, overseeing their social media accounts and marketing campaigns during a period of high growth for esports.

May was expanding her on-camera experience through freelance hosting and MC positions. This included landing a hosting spot for the major 2014 League of Legends tournament organized by Riot Games.

May’s early experience paid off when she was brought on board by Team Liquid in 2016, one of the world’s most valuable esports organizations.

May left Team Liquid to join Yahoo’s esports coverage team in 2017. At Yahoo, she conducted high-profile interviews and strengthened her on-camera presence in preparation for a career milestone…

Ovilee May Jump at Yahoo Esports

May was hired by Yahoo in 2017 as an assistant content creator focused on esports coverage. She brought valuable experience from managing social media and events for esports teams like Team Liquid.

As part of the Yahoo esports team, May leveraged her gaming industry connections to interview top professional gamers, esports executives, and gaming celebrities. Her interview subjects included renowned figures at publishers like Blizzard and Riot Games.

In addition to interviews, May took on a prominent on-air role covering a slate of high-profile gaming competitions for Yahoo, including the Heroes of the Dorm tournament, the North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), and many other flagship events.

After two years of developing her skills and profile under Yahoo, May had built a personal brand to out as an independent gaming media creator.

Ovilee May Hired as On-Air Host for LCS Broadcasts

In August 2017, May achieved a career milestone when she was hired by Riot Games as a host and interviewer for their immensely popular League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) broadcasts. This placed her in a prominent on-air role for one of esports’ largest stages.

May brought her upbeat energy to the LCS analyst desk segments, often injecting humor through funny voices, spontaneous dances, and comical facial expressions. Her lighthearted content helped earn her the “Meme Queen” nickname among League of Legends fans.

May continue interviewing gaming celebrities at LCS events. This included a viral clip where she freaked out upon realizing she was speaking to Linkin Park lead singer Mike Shinoda at an Arcane premiere.

The visibility May gained from the massively popular LCS broadcasts accelerated the growth of her brand. She garnered over 100,000 Twitch followers and 150,000 Twitter followers during her 2+ years on Riot’s air staff.

Leaving the LCS broadcasting team for More Creative Freedom

After three years as an instantly recognizable on-air host and interviewer in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) broadcasts, Ovilee May announced she was leaving the official team in June 2020. She had become a face of the LCS production, earning the “Meme Queen” nickname for her humor and charm.

In a heartfelt video to fans explaining her decision, May emphasized a desire for more flexibility and creative control over her work. While she cherished her experience on the storied LCS analyst desk, she felt constricted from pursuing some of her other passions.

She frequently posts gaming content and commentary to her loyal audience.
