Following the incident, numerous conflicting reports and rumors about Prigozhin’s presumed death emerged online amid a flood of misinformation. The New York Times said it could not verify any claims. When asked about the crash, President Joe Biden said he was “not surprised,” adding that little happens in Russia without Putin’s involvement. Authoritative confirmation of Prigozhin’s reported death remains pending.
“I don’t know for a fact what happened, but I’m not surprised,” Biden said, adding: “There’s not much that happens in Russia that Putin’s not behind. But I don’t know enough to know the answer.”

Lyubov Prigozhina (née Valentinovna) was born on June 26, 1970 in Russia. She is a businesswoman and pharmacist who was married to the late Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin until his reported death in 2023.
Her prominence is largely due to her association with her late husband, who was known as “Putin’s chef.”
